District Collector Swaroopa T.K. has ordered a temporary traffic diversion on National Highway‑66 in Udupi for the Uchchila Dasara procession scheduled on October 21, 2026, between 3 PM and 11 PM.
To keep movement smooth, heavy vehicles traveling from the Udupi‑Mangaluru corridor must use the Katapadi‑Shirva‑Belmannu‑Padubidri route during the specified hours. Vehicles bound for Bajpe Airport are directed through Katapadi‑Shirva‑Belmannu‑Mundkoor.
All trucks, lorries, tankers and similar heavy loads are required to park in designated truck bays at Kundapura and Udupi until 9 PM, after which they may resume their journeys. Night‑time passenger buses that operate from Udupi to Bengaluru via Mangaluru are instructed to depart only after 9 PM.
From 3 PM to 11 PM, the entire Mangaluru‑Udupi stretch is closed to heavy‑vehicle traffic. The notice cites powers granted under Section 115 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 and Rule 221 5(a) of the Karnataka Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989.
Motorists are urged to follow the alternate routes and adhere to the timing restrictions to avoid congestion during the festive procession that will pass the Sri Mahalakshmi Temple at Uchchila.
