On Tuesday, the Karnataka Lokayukta's anti‑corruption unit carried out coordinated raids in Mandya, Kalaburagi and Hubballi‑Dharwad, targeting a retired BCM hostel superintendent and active electricity‑supply officials, and seized cash, gold jewellery, liquor bottles and numerous property documents.
In Mandya, officers entered the retired superintendent's home in Vinayaka Layout, Maddur, and his farmhouse. Searches uncovered assets valued at more than Rs 2 crore, including cash, gold jewellery, hundreds of property papers, expensive silk sarees and about 80 bottles of liquor. Food supplies meant for BCM hostel students – rice, pulses and cooking oil – were also recovered, along with government‑gift boxes from a literary conference held in the district two years earlier. A photocopying machine and scanner were brought in to digitise the seized documents.
Kalaburagi saw a raid on the residence of a woman Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) of GESCOM in Mahalakshmi Layout. Led by Lokayukta Superintendent of Police Siddaraju, the team recovered roughly 400 grams of gold. Investigators are now reviewing her assets and financial records to assess any disproportionate accumulation.
In the twin cities of Hubballi‑Dharwad, four locations linked to a HESCOM AEE and his family were searched. Deputy Superintendent of Police Basavaraj Budni headed the operation, which covered the HESCOM office in Hubballi, the AEE’s wife's residence and office, a house in Akshay Park and property belonging to the officer’s brother in Dharwad, including the Gopanakoppa HESCOM office and Kiran Kumar’s brother's house. Both the officer and his wife serve as engineers with the power utility.
Across all sites, Lokayukta teams are scrutinising bank statements, property records and other materials recovered to determine whether the officials hold assets beyond their known sources of income.
