On August 13, 2026, the Jaya Shree Krishna Parisara Premi Samiti, an NGO dedicated to environmental awareness and social welfare, hosted a significant social get-together at the Fortune Atrium in Dubai. The event brought together prominent NRI Kannadigas and community leaders to discuss critical issues facing coastal Karnataka.
Thonse Jayakrishna A. Shetty, the Samiti's Founder, presided over the gathering, with Sarvotham Shetty, Convener of the UAE Samiti, extending a warm welcome. Distinguished guests, including Dr. Ronald Colaco, NRI Distinguished Fellow, Institute of Directors (India-Global); industrialist Dr. B. R. Shetty; Dharmapal Devadiga, President of Vishwa Devadiga Mahamandala; Ronald Pinto; and Hidayath Adur, jointly inaugurated the proceedings by lighting the traditional lamp, symbolising knowledge and unity.
Delivering the keynote address, Dr. Ronald Colaco underscored the vital role of community involvement, environmental stewardship, and united efforts in forging a sustainable society. Earlier, Thonse Jayakrishna A. Shetty outlined the Jaya Shree Krishna Parisara Premi Samiti's objectives and ongoing activities, reaffirming its commitment to environmental protection and various social causes. Dr. B. R. Shetty, Dharmapal Devadiga, and Frank Fernandes commended the Samiti's initiatives, extending their best wishes for its continued service.
The dignitaries collectively stressed the imperative of balancing development with environmental protection. They advocated for promoting industrialisation, tourism, and commercial ventures to foster holistic growth in the undivided Dakshina Kannada district and Coastal Karnataka. While encouraging responsible industrial expansion, they emphasised the critical need to control pollution. By harnessing the region's potential through tourism and commerce, they noted, significant local employment opportunities could emerge, directly contributing to poverty alleviation.
Discussions also delved into individual responsibility for environmental preservation, urging attendees to maintain clean surroundings, conserve natural resources, and ensure eco-conscious development practices. A powerful message on social harmony resonated throughout the event: “Loving our own caste and religion is our responsibility, but loving and respecting other castes and religions is our supreme responsibility.” Speakers underlined that mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and humanity form the bedrock of a progressive and harmonious society.
Towards the conclusion of the program, Thonse Jayakrishna A. Shetty presented honours to Dr. Ronald Colaco and Dr. B. R. Shetty. This recognition acknowledged their significant contributions to environmental awareness, social service, industrial development, and community welfare.
