On Monday, Arjun Mahesh, 24, was found dead in a hotel room in Mangaluru, Karnataka, still reeling from the loss of his sister Aija R. Mahesh, who had taken her own life in June due to NEET exam irregularities. Arjun, an automobile engineer working in Dubai, had returned to Kasaragod, Kerala, for his sister’s funeral rites just 25 days ago. Family members reported that he was struggling with severe mental depression after his sister’s death. Arjun arrived at Mangaluru International Airport on Sunday from Sharjah without informing his family and booked a hotel room in Maravoor under his mother’s name. When his mobile phone was switched off, his friends in Dubai alerted his family, leading to a complaint filed at Bekal Police Station in Kasaragod. The Cyber Cell tracked his last location to Mangaluru, and the Bajpe police were informed when hotel staff could not reach him. Upon entering the room, police found Arjun hanging, along with a note that read ‘Amma, I am sorry’ and contact information for close friends to be notified of his death. The Mangaluru City Police Commissioner stated that a case has been registered at Bajpe Police Station and an investigation is underway.
