On Tuesday, State Cashew Development Corporation Chairperson Mamata S. Gatti spoke at a press conference in Mangaluru, highlighting the significance of the state government’s ‘Ritu Tara’ program, which aims to promote menstrual health and hygiene awareness among adolescent girls and women. Held at the Press Club in the city on August 11, the conference emphasized the need to dispel superstitions and misconceptions surrounding menstruation. Gatti stressed that educating girls about safe menstrual hygiene practices is crucial to ensure their education and school attendance are not affected. She also underlined the importance of creating awareness about eco-friendly alternatives like menstrual cups and sanitary pads. Furthermore, Gatti noted that menopause is a natural phase in a woman’s life, and women should be informed about the physical and mental changes that may occur during this period. With the cooperation of parents, teachers, health workers, and society, Gatti believes an open and scientific dialogue on menstrual health and women’s health can be fostered. The Ritu Tara program is a comprehensive effort to provide health dignity, awareness, and self-confidence to women, from adolescent girls to those experiencing menopause. Chanchalakshi Tejomaya, Vijayalakshmi Shetty, Suma Manvi, and Premalatha were also present at the press conference, which took place on August 11 in Mangaluru.
