On Tuesday, Mangaluru played host to a notable event where Mangalore University Vice-Chancellor Prof P L Dharma presented the 2026 P Go Award to Shamsuddin Enmuru, Senior Sub-Editor of Varthabharathi newspaper, at the citys Press Club. Prof Dharma commended the journalists of D K district for their exemplary use of the Kannada language, describing their work as a movement to promote the language. He praised Shamsuddins special report, which earned him the award, highlighting his excellent language and tone in alerting the government. Prof Dharma noted that the language used by Kannada journalists in the district is comparable to research, with a surprising use of new words every time.
Prof Dharma emphasized the importance of government institutions and educational sectors for the indigenous Koragas and other communities in the district, urging journalists to draw the governments attention to this matter. Shamsuddin, accepting the award, acknowledged that it increases his responsibility. The event also featured senior journalist Chidambara Baikampady sharing his association with Padyana Gopalakrishna, the awards namesake.
