Satish Jarkiholi, Karnataka’s Public Works Department Minister, announced on Saturday that the allocation of Cabinet portfolios is expected to be completed by Monday evening. In Bengaluru, Jarkiholi spoke to reporters, stating that the process of assigning departments to the newly inducted ministers will likely be finalized by Monday. The Minister’s statement comes amid intense lobbying over portfolio allocation. When asked about threats and warnings issued by some party leaders, Jarkiholi downplayed the issue, saying it was not the time for such statements. He also confirmed that the resignation of BJP MLC Basavaraj Horatti as Chairman of the Legislative Council has been accepted, and the process for electing a new chairman will begin soon. Jarkiholi recently visited Delhi, but described the trip as a casual meeting, denying any discussion on creating additional Deputy Chief Minister posts. Meanwhile, Harapanahalli MLA M.P. Latha Mallikarjun demanded representation for women in the expanded Karnataka Cabinet, citing the state’s large population of women. Efforts are underway to pacify senior leader H.C. Mahadevappa, who is reportedly dissatisfied with the Cabinet portfolio allocation. Minister N. Cheluvarayaswamy has urged Mahadevappa to remain patient, as efforts are being made to address his concerns.
