The Keralam state government has launched a renewed anti-corruption investigation targeting Central Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar, reviving graft allegations that first surfaced in 2006. This significant development sees the state administration taking steps to revisit long-standing claims of financial impropriety against the high-ranking official.

In a critical step towards this new inquiry, the state's Home Department has formally requested the complete findings from a Crime Branch investigation conducted in 2006. These findings, which delved into the original accusations, are being sought to facilitate a comprehensive legal opinion on the matter. Officials indicate that gathering this historical data is paramount to understanding the full scope of the initial probe and informing the subsequent legal strategy.

Adding another layer to the intensified scrutiny, Keralam Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala has issued a distinct directive. He has specifically instructed the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) to conduct a thorough re-examination of the conclusions drawn from an earlier vigilance enquiry. That initial enquiry had been commissioned by the then Chief Minister, V. S. Achuthanandan, and was prompted by the widespread public discussion surrounding the 'Lee See Been controversy.'

The recent actions by the Keralam government signify a clear intent to revisit and thoroughly investigate these long-standing allegations, placing a high-ranking official under renewed scrutiny. The strategy involves a dual approach: leveraging historical data from the Crime Branch's initial probe and initiating a fresh review by the VACB. This comprehensive method underscores the administration's commitment to a detailed and exhaustive examination of the graft claims, ensuring all facets of the 2006 accusations and subsequent inquiries are meticulously reviewed.
