On June 22, Udupi District Collector Swaroop T K directed the Public Works Department officials to inspect the quality of footpaths in the district and submit a report. The collector was speaking at the District Disaster Management Authority meeting held at the Manipal Rajatadri district office auditorium. With over 600 footpaths in the district, the collector emphasized the need to prioritize the repair of existing footpaths to prevent accidents. The district has received 40% less rainfall this year, with 1182 mm of rainfall recorded so far, against the normal 1959 mm. The collector also instructed officials to ensure that compensation for crop damage is distributed promptly. The district has reported damage to areca and coconut crops, with losses amounting to Rs 28.64 lakh. The collector directed officials to provide alternative sources of drinking water to 146 villages in 94 gram panchayats that are likely to face water scarcity in the coming days.

The collector also instructed officials to conduct joint inspections of school and anganwadi buildings to ensure their safety. The district panchayat CEO, Prateek Bayal, said that the district is likely to face drinking water scarcity due to the deficit rainfall and that steps are being taken to address the issue. The meeting was attended by various district-level officials, including DFO Ruthren P and Wildlife DFO Shivaram M Babu.
