On a recent occasion, the IMJ Institutions in Kundapur hosted a special lecture on the topic ‘Scientific Heritage of India’. Dr. P. Subbanna Bhat, a distinguished educationist and scholar of Indian history, philosophy, and scientific heritage, was the chief guest and delivered a captivating lecture. With a Ph.D. from IIT Kanpur, Dr. Bhat highlighted the significant contribution of India to the world, particularly in the field of mathematics, citing the example of the number system. He also spoke about the achievements of ancient Indian mathematicians Aryabhata and Bhaskaracharya, who provided highly accurate solutions to complex mathematical problems thousands of years ago. Dr. Bhat’s lecture also covered the accomplishments of ancient Indians in astronomy, including their expertise in planetary motion, calculation of eclipses, and timekeeping, all of which predated modern science. The event was attended by Dr. S. N. Bhat, Academic Director of IMJ Institutions, Dr. Ramakrishna Hegde, Principal and Director of Brand Building at MIT Kundapura, and other faculty members. The lecture successfully inspired a new sense of awareness and pride among students and teachers regarding India’s rich scientific heritage.
