On July 7, Udupi district continued to experience the fury of wind and rain, with over 40 houses damaged in the last 24 hours. Three cattle sheds were also damaged, and agricultural crops in three areas suffered significant damage. The district’s rainfall decreased, but strong winds accompanying the rain caused widespread destruction. Trees fell on houses and cattle sheds, causing damage, and agricultural crops were also affected.

In Karkala taluk, the cattle shed of Sukumar Hegde in Marne village was completely destroyed, with estimated losses of over Rs 2.5 lakh. Similarly, in Brahmavar taluk, the cattle shed of Gouri Poojari in Kote village and Ananda Ram’s shed in Belur village, Kundapura taluk, suffered partial damage, with estimated losses of Rs 50,000. Agricultural crops belonging to Sadanand Shetty and Narayan Shetty in Siddapura, Kundapura taluk, and Krishna Naik in Shivapura, Hebri, were also damaged.

According to reports, over 40 houses were damaged in the district, with estimated losses of around Rs 11 lakh. More than 10 houses suffered significant damage. In Brahmavar taluk, 18 cases of house damage were reported, while Kundapura taluk reported 12 cases. Other taluks reported fewer cases, with Kapu reporting two, Byndoor three, Karkala four, and Hebri two.

In Byndoor taluk, the house of Lakshman Karvi in Uppunda village was partially destroyed when a large tree fell on it, causing estimated losses of over Rs 1 lakh. Other houses that suffered damage included those of Shakuntala in Belve, Sanjiva Shetty, Venkatesh Shetty, Karunakar Shetty, and Narayan Shetty in Ajri, Kundapura taluk.

As of 8:30 am today, the district received an average rainfall of 52.3 mm, with the highest rainfall recorded in Hebri at 68.3 mm. Other taluks received significant rainfall, with Karkala recording 58.3 mm, Byndoor 58.3 mm, Kundapura 52.2 mm, Udupi 45.9 mm, Kapu 34 mm, and Brahmavar 31.1 mm.
