Coastal Karnataka's legal fraternity saw a significant development on October 17 with the official establishment of the Dakshina Kannada district unit of the All India Practicing Lawyers Council (AILC). During a special meeting convened at Lalbagh, Mangaluru, Advocate Siddique Haji from Puttur was elected as the unit's inaugural President, while Advocate Tajuddin Mangaluru assumed the crucial role of General Secretary.

The formation and election took place during a Lawyers' Forum meeting for the coastal districts, held under the specific directions of Advocate Balan, President of the All India Practicing Lawyers Council Karnataka and a respected Bengaluru High Court lawyer. Advocate Abdul Majeed Khan, a renowned High Court advocate and the AILC Karnataka State General Secretary, presided over the important session.

Beyond the top leadership roles, the newly constituted district unit also elected other key office bearers to steer its activities. Advocate Zeeshan Ali from Mangaluru and Advocate Gregory D'Souza from Puttur were chosen as Vice Presidents, completing the initial leadership team for the Dakshina Kannada chapter.

A significant portion of the gathering was dedicated to profound discussions on various aspects concerning the legal profession. Attendees deliberated extensively on safeguarding lawyers' rights, addressing pertinent professional issues, and navigating the challenges faced by legal practitioners within the judicial field. Strategies for strengthening lawyers' organizations were also a focal point.

Organizers articulated the unit's clear objectives: to effectively organize lawyers across the coastal region, diligently protect their professional interests, and collectively reinforce the vital role lawyers play within the broader judicial system. State committee members, Advocate Sahira K. Zubair from Bengaluru and Advocate Ashraf K. from Puttur, were also present to witness the unit's inauguration.
