On July 4, Udupi city police apprehended Zeenath Ibrahim, a resident of Padubidri, for allegedly blackmailing a local entrepreneur. The businessman, involved in real estate, had previously partnered with Zeenath to launch a joint venture. He had entrusted her with Rs. 70 lakh for investment purposes, but she allegedly misused the funds. When the businessman discovered secret files and a pen drive containing private and obscene content, Zeenath began demanding more money, threatening to file a false rape case and issue death threats against his family. The police have registered a case against Zeenath and others, including Sabina Ilyas, for running a network of fraud and extortion. A special team, led by City Station PSI Bharatesh Kankanawadi, arrested Zeenath on July 2. The accused has been remanded to police custody for further investigation. Udupi District Superintendent of Police Hariram Shankar urges anyone who may have been similarly cheated by Zeenath to contact the Udupi City Police Station.
