On Thursday, Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel H.D. Kumaraswamy expressed deep grief over the deaths of seven workers in a stone quarry boulder collapse at Madapattana in Bengaluru South taluk. The incident, which occurred early in the morning at the Kaveri Crusher unit in Madapatna village, claimed the lives of at least seven migrant labourers from Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and North Karnataka. Several others were injured, and rescue teams fear that more workers remain trapped beneath the debris. Kumaraswamy urged the Karnataka government to provide immediate relief to the affected families and enforce stringent safety measures at quarries. He also called for the strict implementation of safety regulations at quarries and directed the concerned departments to maintain close monitoring of quarrying operations. Deputy Chief Minister G. Parameshwara expressed deep sorrow over the deaths, stating that ensuring the safety of workers is the responsibility of quarry owners. The search for the remaining bodies continues, with three dead bodies recovered from the site with the help of a JCB. R. Ashoka, senior BJP leader and Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Assembly, will visit the hospital to inquire about the well-being of the injured. The incident highlights the need for improved safety measures in quarries to prevent such tragedies. Kumaraswamy emphasized that quarry owners must exercise utmost caution and strictly implement all safety measures to prevent recurring accidents. The state government has been urged to take appropriate action against those who violate safety regulations.
