On Tuesday, the Udupi district court complex received its fourth fake bomb threat via email. The Udupi police have intensified their technical investigation into the matter. The anonymous email was sent to the court’s email address on Tuesday morning, following which the Udupi town police were informed. A dog squad and bomb disposal team conducted a thorough search of the premises, but no suspicious objects were found, confirming that the threat was a hoax.
Prior to this, the court had received similar fake bomb threats on June 21, June 26, and the previous day. The Udupi town police station has registered cases related to the first two email threats, and an investigation is ongoing. Udupi District Police Chief Hariram Shankar stated that the technical team is already investigating the matter, and the source of these fake email threats is being traced in coordination with other districts, states, and central agencies.
Karnataka State Law, Human Rights, and Information Department Principal Secretary and Senior Advocate Habeeb Ali strongly condemned the incident, demanding that the courts’ security be strengthened to prevent such incidents and that the perpetrators be punished severely. In response to the fake email threats, it has been decided that the court premises will be thoroughly inspected every day before the court opens to ensure that no suspicious objects or materials are present.
