On Tuesday, Udupi District Deputy Commissioner Swaroop T.K. urged the public to share information about narcotics activities in the district through a newly developed QR code. He was speaking at the district-level coordination committee meeting of the Narco Coordination Center (NCORD) at the district administration office in Manipal. The police department has developed the QR code to facilitate the control of narcotics. The public can share information about the transportation, use, and sale of narcotics in the district through the QR code, and the identity of the informants will be kept confidential.

The district administration has asked local bodies, educational institutions, industrial centers, and labor departments to publicize the QR code in public places, including bus stations, industrial areas, and labor associations, as well as in cinemas. DC Swaroop T.K. suggested that awareness programs be organized in schools and colleges to educate young people about the dangers of narcotics. He also advised the agriculture, horticulture, and forest departments to conduct surprise visits to farms, plantations, and forests to check for illegal cultivation of ganja.

The meeting was attended by District Police Chief Hari Ram Shankar, Assistant Commissioner Rashmi, Additional Police Chief Sudhakar Nayak, and other district-level officials. DC Swaroop T.K. emphasized the need for everyone to work together to make the district free from narcotics. He also stressed the importance of monitoring hostels and students, and conducting medical tests if there is suspicion of drug use. The district administration will also investigate the possibility of narcotics being supplied through parcels and will be vigilant about workers coming from outside the state.
