On Sunday, a massive human chain event was organized in front of the Ganjimath Primary Health Center by the CPI(M) Gurupur zone committee, demanding the strengthening of government hospitals. The event was inaugurated by CPI(M) Dakshina Kannada district secretary Munir Katipalla, who warned that if the government does not stop the privatization of government hospitals, they will have to face the consequences. Katipalla criticized the government for trying to hand over government hospitals to private entities, despite the demands of the people to strengthen them. He also expressed disappointment that the opposition BJP lawmakers were not opposing the government’s anti-people policies.

The CPI(M) Gurupur zone secretary, Sadashiva Das, spoke about the shortage of doctors and medicines in primary health centers in the Gurupur hobli, and the proposal to upgrade the Ganjimath Primary Health Center has been gathering dust in the health department. Despite multiple protests, the people’s representatives have not taken any action, he lamented. Other prominent leaders of the CPI(M) and trade unions were present at the event, which was followed by a massive human chain formation in the Ganjimath market, where participants shouted slogans demanding that the government stop the privatization of hospitals and provide basic facilities and doctors to strengthen them.
