On June 28, 2026, Shyama Devi, the mother of Indian shooting legend Jaspal Rana, passed away due to multiple health issues, just days after her son’s death on June 12. Jaspal Rana, a 49-year-old renowned shooter, died from cardiac complications. His mother’s passing occurred on what would have been Jaspal’s 50th birthday. In New Delhi, the news of Shyama Devi’s death was met with condolences from Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, who expressed his sorrow and offered strength to the bereaved family. Jaspal Rana is survived by his wife Reena Rana, daughter Devanshi, son Yuvraj, and his two siblings, Sushma Singh and Subhash Rana. As a shooter, Jaspal Rana made a significant impact, winning three gold medals and a silver at the 2006 Doha Asian Games. He also transitioned to coaching, guiding Manu Bhaker to twin bronze medals at the Paris Olympics. At the time of his death, Jaspal Rana was serving as the high-performance coach for Indian pistol shooters.
Shyama Devi’s death comes as a massive blow to Jaspal’s father Narayan Singh Rana, who had been mourning his son. The Rana family, based in Uttarakhand, has been dealing with the loss of Jaspal, who initially fell ill aboard the Indian contingent’s return flight from the ISSF World Cup in Munich, Germany. After being hospitalized in New Delhi, Jaspal underwent an emergency heart procedure, but unfortunately, he did not recover.
