On June 28, in Kundapura, Dr. Narendra Rai Derla emphasized the importance of schools in shaping a pluralistic India and fostering human love. He was speaking at the 20th Kundapura Taluk Kannada Literary Conference, titled ‘Nudi Belaku 2026’, organized by the Udupi district unit of the Kannada Sahitya Parishat. Dr. Derla, a columnist and retired professor, highlighted the need for schools to cultivate sensitivity, diversity, and love for humanity.
Senior journalist Y. Surendra Shetty, who presided over the conference, expressed concerns about the decline of Kannada language and literature. He criticized the practice of using Kannada flags as a symbol of political propaganda and emphasized the need to promote Kannada language and culture genuinely. Shetty also stressed the importance of teaching children the values of life along with language.
The conference was attended by several notable personalities, including Anand C. Kundar, Ramanna Uppaiah, and Subrahmanya Shetty. The event also featured a book exhibition and a cultural program. Dr. Derla’s speech highlighted the need for a more nuanced approach to promoting Kannada language and culture, and the importance of schools in shaping a more inclusive and compassionate society.
