Chennai, June 14: Tamil Nadu Minister Senthil Balaji has been arrested by Enforcement Directorate officials in a money laundering case. Senthil Balaji was also a minister in the last AIADMK government. ED has registered several cases against him.
Now Tamil Nadu minister V Senthil Balaji has been arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday morning in connection with the money laundering case related to the cash-for-jobs scam during Jayalalithaa’s cabinet.
Former AIADMK minister V Senthil Balaji, who joined the DMK in 2018, has been named as an accused in the employment scam that took place between 2011 and 2015 when he was the Transport Minister of Tamil Nadu under the then AIADMK government.
The Supreme Court had last month approved the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to investigate Balaji and others in connection with the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) case. The Supreme Court’s order now comes after the Madras High Court set aside an earlier judgment dismissing the ED summons against Senthil Balaji and others.
Senthil Balaji, who holds electricity and excise accounts in the DMK government, has been arrested under provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). He was arrested after an extensive search of his residence and other properties on Tuesday.
Tamil Nadu Excise Minister and DMK leader V Senthil Balaji broke down in tears in the ambulance as he was being taken to the hospital for a medical check-up in the money laundering case on Wednesday morning. Later Chief Minister MK Stalin visited him in the hospital and encouraged him.
DMK will deal with this case legally with determination. DMK is not afraid of BJP’s threat, people are seeing such oppression. In this regard, Stalin said that he will give a suitable answer in the Lok Sabha elections of 2024.
