Manipal police detained two suspects on Tuesday after uncovering a network that shipped MDMA from Bangalore to students in Udipi, Perampalli and Manipal colleges.
The operation, led by Manipal Inspector Mahesh Prasad and guided by Udipi Sub‑Division IPS officer Belliyappa, resulted in the seizure of assets worth several lakh rupees. Akbar Mohammad Bairy, 44, a resident of Palligudde in Katpadi, Udipi taluk, and Saiyad Suhail, 26, from M.S. Palya, Bangalore, were taken into custody.
According to investigators, the duo sold MDMA (commonly known as ecstasy) to local students. A tip received at 12:10 a.m. on the night of the raid prompted officers to stop a Maruti Swift near the Perampalli bridge in Shivalli village. A subsequent search exposed the illicit operation.
Police recovered approximately 30 grams of MDMA valued at about 1 lakh rupees, four mobile phones worth 40,000 rupees, a dongle priced at 5,000 rupees, cash amounting to 9,500 rupees, and the Maruti Swift itself, which had a market value of roughly 3 lakh rupees. In total, seized items exceeded several lakh rupees.
The case has been logged at the Manipal police station. PSI Timmesh B.N. will continue the investigation, and the accused have been presented before the court for further legal action.
