Bangalore: Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa said he was unhappy with the progress of the road and other works under the Smart Cities project in Bangalore, despite the onset of monsoon.

Under the city’s Smart City Scheme, 27 road works are currently in place, with mud piles everywhere on the roadside and trenches. People and traffic are disrupted.

Last time I saw firsthand the progress of the implementation of these works and prioritized the completion of major works by 31st May. But the implementation of these works has not been completed. It has already been a week since the onset of monsoon. The rain will intensify in the next two weeks. The chief ministers questioned the BBMP officials as to when the works would be completed.

Both sides of the road are incomplete on major roads, from Minsk Square to Rajabhavan Road, from Vasanthanagar to Basaveshwara Road, from Balabrooi Guesthouse to Manikkavelu Mansion Circle. A handful of workers are operating there. Representatives note that the incompleteness of the works in the Central Business District (CBD) has impeded the traffic of the public and the elite. When the chief ministers questioned when these works would be completed, the chief engineer of the Smart City project said that the work would be completed by June 30.

The promise came when the city police commissioner and the joint commissioner of traffic department took notice of the valid chief ministers and requested the chief ministers to expedite the smart city project.

The chief ministers have been strictly instructed by BBMP chief commissioner Shri Gaura Gupta and other officials to act as deadlines for the implementation of the Smart City project last time.
