Mumbai: The NCP, caught in a crisis after Ajit Pawar, who was the leader of the opposition, and some MLAs joined the Eknath Shinde government, has submitted a disqualification petition to Assembly Speaker Rahul Narvekar. The party told the Election Commission that party workers from all districts stand firm with NCP chief Sharad Pawar.

Maharashtra NCP president Jayant Patil on Sunday said his party has filed a disqualification petition against Ajit Pawar and eight others who took oath as ministers in the Eknath Shinde-led government. Sources said that the application for disqualification of nine MLAs, including Ajit Pawar, was filed after Sharad Pawar’s notice.

Eight other NCP MLAs, including staunch Sharad Pawar loyalist NCP MLAs like Chhagan Bhujbal and Dilip Valse Patil, have been made ministers. A disqualification petition was submitted to the assembly speaker through email after the complaint was filed in the state disciplinary committee. Jayant Patil said that a complaint has also been filed on WhatsApp and IM, and we have urged the Assembly Speaker to listen to it today.

These MLAs of NCP cannot be called traitors as their treachery is yet to be proved, many are in touch with us,” he said. Meanwhile, NCP working president and her cousin Supriya Sule said that the developments in the party will not affect the unity of the opposition.
