KMC Hospital in Mangaluru organised the 21st “Walk for Your Heart” on 7 September 2026 to mark World Heart Day, drawing more than 1,500 walkers from the city and surrounding areas.
The event aimed to make heart health simple and inclusive, encouraging regular walking, balanced diets and active lifestyles as everyday habits. Participants ranged from school students to senior citizens, all moving along a route that started at the hospital premises on Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Circle, passed through Balmatta Road, Taj Mahal, Milagres Church, IMA Hall, Attavar and S.L. Mathias Road, and finished at Marena Sports Complex in Kaprigudda.
Flagging off the walk were Dr. Dilip G. Naik, Pro Vice Chancellor of MAHE Mangalore Campus, Shri Anand Fernandes, CEO of EGDK India Pvt. Ltd., and senior cardiology experts including Dr. Narasimha Pai, Dr. Padmanabha Kamath, Dr. Maneesh Rai, Dr. M.N. Bhat, Dr. Harish Raghavan, Dr. Iresh Shetty and Shri Pramod Kunder, Cluster Director of KMC Hospital.
National‑level athlete Sakshi Christina Karkada carried the torch and later received a felicitation for her sporting achievements during the closing ceremony. Representatives from BASF, Infosys, Adani Power, GMPL and Cardolite presented awards to winners of various participation categories.
Key guests such as Dr. T.R. Udupa, Chief Medical Officer of BASF, Mr. Vasudev Kamath, DC Head of Infosys Mangalore, Mr. Girish Raghuvanshi, Chief Business Officer of Adani Power Ltd., Mr. Shyam Sunder, Deputy General Manager – HR of GMPL, and Mr. Prabodha Seetharam, Assistant General Manager of Cardolite, also attended and handed out prizes.
In addition to the walk, KMC Hospital launched a Metabolic Heart Screening Package targeted at young adults aged 25 to 45. The preventive check‑up is designed to detect early, asymptomatic cardiovascular and metabolic risks before they develop into chronic conditions. Appointments can be booked by calling 9448254700.
With over 1,500 individuals joining the march, the 21st edition reinforced KMC Hospital’s ongoing commitment to preventive cardiac care and highlighted the power of community engagement in building a healthier Mangaluru.
