Mangalore will witness a citywide health march on Sunday, September 27, 2026, when KMC Hospital launches its annual “World Heart Day Walkathon 2026” at 6:15 AM. The event, themed “Don’t Miss a Beat”, aims to highlight cardiovascular wellness and motivate residents to adopt active lifestyles.

Shri U T Khader, Karnataka’s Minister for Health & Family Welfare, will officially flag off the procession. Among the invited dignitaries are Smt Geetha D Kulkarni, ACP of the City Crime Record Bureau, Mangalore City Police; Dr Dilip G Naik, Pro VC of MAHE Mangalore Campus; and Shri Anand Fernandes, CEO of EGDK India Pvt Ltd.

The walk will begin at KMC Hospital on Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Circle, wind through Balmatta Road, pass the Taj Mahal restaurant, Milagres Church, IMA Hall, Attavar and S.L. Mathias Road, and finish at Marena Sports Complex in Kaprigudda. Participants are encouraged to dress in red, and a national‑level athlete, Sakshi Christina Karkada, will carry the torch for the route.

KMC Hospital boasts a comprehensive cardiac team comprising five full‑time cardiologists, three cardiac surgeons, an electrophysiologist, two cath labs, and a cadre of skilled technicians and support staff. The institution has organized “Walk for Your Heart” events for the past 21 years, and this year it seeks to involve families and friends in spreading heart‑healthy habits.

Organisers stress that rising heart‑related problems among youth stem from stress, sedentary routines, and poor diets. By offering free health checks, informational stalls, and competitive categories such as Best Corporate, Group or Institution participation, the walkathon hopes to turn awareness into action. Winners will receive prizes during a valedictory ceremony held at the Marena Sports Complex later on the same day.

Through this community‑centric initiative, KMC Hospital reaffirms its commitment to making advanced cardiac care accessible while fostering a healthier Mangalore.
