Jyoti Basu served as the Chief Minister of a state for 23 years and 137 days. Naveen Patnaik completed 23 years and 139 days on Saturday. On May 5, 2000, Patnaik assumed office as the Chief Minister of the state of Odisha.

 

Jyoti Basu broke the record; Jyoti Basu served as the Chief Minister of West Bengal from June 21, 1977 to November 5, 2000. Now Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has broken this record.

 

India’s longest serving Chief Minister record is held by former Sikkim Chief Minister Pawan Kumar Chamling. He was the chief minister of a state for 25 years. He served as Chief Minister from December 12, 1994 to May 26, 2019.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik entered politics in 1997 after the death of his father Biju Patnaik. On December 26, 1997, he formed a new party. Patnaik also served as Union Minister of State for Steel and Mines from 1998 to 2000. He was a Member of Parliament from 1997 to 2000

Naveen Patnaik, who entered politics after his father’s death in 1997, became an MLA for the first time by winning the by-election from Aska constituency. Learned politics early. After leaving the Janata Dal, he joined the BJP and started the Biju Janata Dal.

He stood with the BJP in the Lok Sabha elections. Atal Bihari served as the Minister of Steel and Mines in the Vajpayee cabinet. Controversies during the Congress-led administration in Odisha also paved the way for Naveen Patnaik’s takeover of the state.

Naveen Patnaik has been elected as the President of Biju Janata Dal (BJD) ruling Odisha for the eighth time in a row. He was the only candidate for the presidential election and the party elected him unopposed.

After the party’s victory in the 2019 assembly elections, Naveen Patnaik once again assumed office as the chief minister of the state. Once in the NDA alliance, he kept an equal distance from the NDA and UPA alliance in the assembly elections.

Educated at Doon School, Naveen Patnaik has been abroad for a long time. After the death of his father, he came to the state and started politics and is running the government for the 5th time as the Chief Minister.
