New Delhi: India has overtaken China in the list of countries with maximum number of two-wheelers in the world.
India is the country with the highest number of registered two-wheelers in the world, according to the latest report of the Road Transport Year Book, India has the highest number of two-wheelers in the world, overtaking China. Indonesia is second in this list. India ranks eighth in the number of passenger cars, while China, America and Japan share the top three positions.
This report has been prepared on the basis of International Road Federation data for 2020, and the information of registered vehicles has been collected from all states and Union Territories of India. There are a total of 32.63 crore vehicles in India, of which 75 percent are two-wheelers. Over two crore vehicles have been registered in the last three years. As a result, the total number of vehicles in India has increased to 34.8 crores by mid-July, according to the government’s Vahan Portal.
Among the Indian states, Maharashtra has the highest number of vehicles at 3.78 crore. Uttar Pradesh (3.49 crores) and Tamil Nadu (3.21 crores) are at the next positions. Among cities with a population of more than ten lakh, Delhi has the highest number of vehicles registered at 1.18 crore. Bangalore has 96.4 lakh vehicles and the state capital is at the second position. Delhi has the highest number of registered private vehicles at 96.4 lakh, while neighboring Faridabad has the highest number of 18.6 lakh transport or commercial vehicles.
34 per cent of the total registered vehicles in the country are in 55 cities with a population of more than ten lakh.
