Dalit leader Jignesh Mewani arrested

Ahmedabad: Assam police on Wednesday detained Dalit leader and leader of Wadagam constituency Jignesh Mewani following a derogatory tweet against Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 21 (UNI).

BJP leader of Assam’s Kokrajhar, Arup Kumar De Jignesh Mewani, had filed a complaint against him. Mewani was arrested by the Circuit House of Palanpur on Wednesday night around 11.30 pm and taken to Ahmedabad, where he was taken to Assam this morning.

“Kokrajhar police have arrested Congressman Wadgam MLA Jignesh Mewani from Palanpur Circuit House last night,” Kokrajhar Police Superintendent Tube Pratik Vijay Kumar said.

According to a document shared by Assam police officials, an FIR was recorded on a tweet by Mewani a few days ago. Twitter has blocked a tweet about Nathuram Godse.
