Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday inaugurated Pune's 23.2 km Metro Line 3, the Pink Line, an elevated corridor connecting the Maan/Hinjewadi IT hub to Shivajinagar. Speaking virtually, PM Modi declared India the fastest-growing economy, actively reducing poverty, and affirmed that public funds, once lost to 'uncles and nephews,' now flow directly to beneficiaries, boosting infrastructure and generating jobs.

The newly opened Pink Line, a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) initiative costing over Rs 8,300 crore, promises to significantly reduce travel time and traffic congestion for tech workers and commuters. Notably, women train operators manage the entire line, with approximately 30 percent of its power needs sourced from solar energy, underscoring its commitment to sustainability.

Recalling his laying the foundation for Pune's first metro phase a decade ago, PM Modi also laid the foundation stone for the Pune Metro Phase-II expansion. Valued at approximately Rs 13,500 crore, this future development will extend connectivity across crucial residential and business hubs including Kharadi, Wagholi, Hadapsar, Swargate, and Khadakwasla.
