Catholic communities across coastal Karnataka, spanning the Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts, observed All Souls' Day on Monday, November 2nd. The solemn occasion, officially known as the Day of the Deceased Faithful, saw thousands gather in churches to commemorate departed family members through special Holy Masses and graveside prayers.

Throughout the Mangaluru Christian Diocese, all churches hosted services both in the morning and evening, providing opportunities for congregants to remember their loved ones. Families engaged in traditional acts of remembrance, diligently cleaning the graves of their deceased relatives, adorning them with fresh flowers, and lighting lamps and candles as symbols of enduring memory and hope.

In Mangaluru city, Ladyhill Church in Urwa was a focal point for the day's observances. Chief priest Fr. Benjamin Pinto led the solemn service there, guiding the faithful in prayer. He was joined by a number of other esteemed clergymen, including Urwa Church's resident priest Fr. Victor D'Souza and assistant priest Fr. Denzil Rodrigues. Fr. Daniel Veigas, the chief priest of Ashoknagar Church, also participated, alongside Fr. Mackenzie, Fr. Vijay, and Fr. Deepak, underscoring the widespread spiritual participation.

Beyond personal remembrance, All Souls' Day holds deep theological significance for Catholic Christians. The day is dedicated to offering prayers for souls believed to be in a state of purification, not yet having attained heaven. Through universal prayers, the reception of blessings from priests, and acts of purification, holy congregations intercede on behalf of these souls, aiding their journey towards eternal rest according to God's word. The communal prayers and rituals reflect a profound belief in the communion of saints and the power of intercession for the departed.
