On November 1, a wedding ceremony at Nalanda Buddha Vihar Hall in Nahur West, Mumbai, turned into a medical emergency when at least 31 attendees, including the bride and groom, were admitted to hospitals for suspected food poisoning.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Abhay Singh Deshmukh reported that the event hosted roughly 400 to 500 guests. Between 70 and 100 people who ate during the final round of the meal began to feel ill shortly after the banquet.

Health officials said 22 of the affected were taken to MT Agarwal Hospital in Mulund, four young children were sent to Kamgar Hospital, also in Mulund, and five more received care at a facility in Vikhroli. All patients remain in stable condition, according to the authorities.

A guest who spoke to IANS confirmed that the illness struck after the concluding course. “Towards the end, when we sat down to eat, along with the bride and groom, everyone fell ill,” the source said, adding that 30 to 40 neighbours were among those hospitalized.

The groom’s maternal uncle described the timeline: guests finished eating around 4 pm, but vomiting started after they returned home, intensifying between 11.00 and 11.30 pm. He noted that the bride was the first to show symptoms and that the number of patients could still rise as more arrivals are reported.

Calling for strict action, the uncle blamed the caterers and urged an inquiry into the venue management committee. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, together with police officials, continues to monitor the situation and has pledged to take necessary steps.

While doctors confirm that the condition of all admitted individuals is stable, families await further investigation into the cause of the outbreak.
