Mangalore, December 2024 – District Revenue Minister U.T. Khadar instructed that the coastal festival slated for this December be celebrated through a wide range of cultural, literary and recreational events, the official briefing said.

The directive was delivered at a pre‑festival meeting held on Sunday in the Deputy Commissioner’s office at Padil, where the minister presided. He emphasized that the programme must highlight the unique folk arts, traditions and cuisine of Karnataka’s coastline, while providing platforms for local talent as well as national cultural troupes.

According to Khadar, activities will target youth, seniors and tourists alike. He called for a dedicated stage for regional artists, and urged the inclusion of national‑level cultural groups. Traditional coastal sports, beach celebrations and a diverse food fair featuring local delicacies are to be given special attention.

Among the adventurous attractions, the minister listed a helicopter ride, a triathlon, a vintage‑car rally, a bike‑riders showcase and yoga sessions. He also proposed an agricultural and horticulture fair, a street‑food festival, a seafood extravaganza, and a visually appealing fruit‑and‑flower exhibition.

Further plans include music concerts, entertainment shows, a film festival, a folk celebration, a dog show, and displays of indigenous livestock. Women‑focused competitions and programmes were specifically mentioned to encourage participation.

In recognition of Tulu’s recent elevation to a second official language, Khadar directed the organisers to stage a compelling programme that reflects Tulu literature and culture. The meeting was attended by TM Shahid, chairman of the State Minimum Wage Advisory Board; Deputy Commissioner Darshan H.V.; Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy; GIPM CEO Navak Carabari; Mangalore Municipal Commissioner Rahul Ratnam Pandey; Additional Deputy Commissioner Raju K.; and representatives of various departments and community organisations.

All directives aim to create a vibrant, inclusive celebration that showcases the coastal identity of Karnataka while attracting visitors from across the country.
