On Sunday, during a massive INDIA bloc rally at New Delhi's Ramlila Maidan, Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi declared that Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar would face removal from his position and subsequent imprisonment. He explicitly accused Kumar of facilitating widespread vote theft across the country.
Gandhi asserted that Prime Election Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah owed their current high offices to Kumar's alleged actions. "What I say always turns out to be true, doesn't it?" he challenged the gathering, reiterating his prediction: "Gyanesh Kumar will be removed from the post of Chief Election Commissioner. Gyanesh Kumar will go to jail. Without Gyanesh Kumar, neither Narendra Modi would have become Prime Minister nor Amit Shah would have become Home Minister."
The Congress leader extended his allegations to include "vote theft" in various Assembly elections, specifically naming Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, and Karnataka, alongside the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. He contended that votes were manipulated through Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and by altering electoral rolls. Gandhi further claimed that 15 percent of India's voters were removed from these rolls post-2024 Lok Sabha elections, terming the recent general election "stolen" and "illegal," a claim he attributed to the Election Commission itself.
Beyond electoral integrity, Gandhi also highlighted the struggles of farmers, youth, and labourers, alleging their rights were being denied while the nation's wealth concentrated in the hands of a select few. "The farmer is not getting his rights. The youth are not getting employment. The labourer is not getting his rights, and the entire wealth has gone into the hands of two or three people. We do not want such an India, and we will not accept such an India," he stated passionately.
The rally, organised by the INDIA bloc, specifically targeted Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Prominent opposition figures, including Congress leaders Mallikarjun Kharge, Sonia Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, alongside Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, attended the "Chalo Delhi" protest march. This large gathering followed a public "impeachment" programme against the CEC held in the capital on October 31.
