The Kuppetti Citizens' Action Committee has announced a large-scale protest rally for November 6 at Kalleri Junction, Belthangady, demanding urgent repairs for the severely damaged Piligoodu-Kuppetti-Uppinangady road. This vital ten-kilometer stretch of the Guruvayanakere-Uppinangady State Highway has deteriorated over the past three years, creating hazardous conditions for thousands of daily commuters.
Connecting numerous educational institutions, religious centers, and offices, the road's poor state significantly impacts students, patients, laborers, and general traffic. Despite repeated representations to public representatives, government officials, and various departments, the community reports no tangible improvements.
In a recent effort to accelerate action, leaders from the Citizens' Action Committee met with the Public Works Department's Chief Engineer in Mangaluru. They submitted a formal request for funds to undertake comprehensive repair work. Officials responded by promising to dispatch senior officers to the site the following day for inspection and necessary intervention.
Undeterred by previous inaction, the committee emphasizes that the upcoming protest, organized to transcend caste, religious, and political differences, will continue until authorities ensure a properly asphalted road. The delegation that met with the PWD Chief Engineer included former Zilla Panchayat member Shahul Hameed Karaya, Committee President Abbas Batladka, General Secretary N.M. Shareef Sakhafi Nekkila, Vice Presidents Adam Al Madina and Abdurrahman Bandasale. Local public representatives Ayyoob B.K. Karaya, Jaya Vikrama Kallapu, Yusuf Haji Pedamale, Sulaiman Karpadi, and Balakrishna Shetty also joined the appeal for immediate government attention.
