A six-year-old girl sustained severe injuries after a Class 3 student allegedly assaulted her with a brick at a government school in Panchkula, Haryana, officials confirmed on Saturday. The brutal incident, captured on classroom CCTV footage that later went viral, has prompted the victim's family to raise serious questions about the school's security protocols and student supervision.
The family of the young victim has detailed a disturbing sequence of events, alleging the eight-year-old accused lured the girl to the school's first floor under the pretext that her father was waiting. It was there, they claim, that the girl was attacked with a stone, a flower pot, and ultimately a brick, leaving her unconscious and bleeding profusely. Faisal, the girl's uncle, recounted the harrowing search for his niece after she failed to return home post-school hours. "When school got over, our hired auto driver went to pick her up, but she was not there. The school staff told him that the girl was missing," Faisal told IANS. He described how the accused boy eventually led them to the unconscious girl upstairs, where his brother fainted upon seeing "blood everywhere in the room."
Concerns about the school's oversight are mounting, particularly regarding the unmonitored CCTV cameras in the principal's office. Faisal pointed out that while these cameras provide crucial surveillance, "nobody was present in that room because the principal had already left" at 3 p.m., just minutes before the assault occurred between 3 p.m. and 3:15 p.m. He further highlighted staffing shortages, with some teachers assigned government duty, leading to "two to three classes combined under one teacher." This, he suggested, created a significant lapse in supervision.
The severity of the girl's injuries underscores the brutal nature of the attack. "He has beaten her so mercilessly, not even an animal is treated with such cruelty," Faisal stated, emphasizing the family's distress. The incident not only highlights a grave security failure within the school premises but also calls for an urgent review of student safety measures and monitoring systems in educational institutions.
