Mangaluru, Monday – Representatives of the MRPL‑MSEZ Contract Workers, Displaced Persons and Victims’ Struggle Committee handed a memorandum to the District Collector of Dakshina Kannada, pressing for immediate action on a series of unresolved issues linked to the MRPL and MSEZ enterprises.
The document, signed by committee members, outlines a range of grievances that have accumulated over months of stalled negotiations. Among the points raised are demands for timely payment of pending dues, clarification of land‑acquisition processes, and provision of basic amenities to families who lost their homes during industrial expansion.
Leadership of the committee rests with Satyajit Surathkal, who serves as its President. Under his guidance, the group has organised several peaceful gatherings along the coastal belt, aiming to highlight the hardships faced by workers and families displaced by the twin projects. Surathkal stressed that the memorandum reflects a collective voice rather than isolated complaints, urging the collector to intervene before the situation deteriorates further.
Local observers note that the appeal arrives at a critical juncture, as both MRPL and MSEZ continue operations that affect large swathes of the community. The District Collector is expected to review the memorandum within the statutory period and schedule a meeting with the committee to discuss possible remedial measures. Stakeholders hope that the dialogue will lead to concrete steps, restoring confidence among the affected population and ensuring that development proceeds without compromising basic rights.
