Dr. Sudha Yadav formally assumed office as Karnataka's 20th Governor on Friday, becoming only the second woman to hold the constitutional post in the state's history. Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar extended a warm welcome to Governor Yadav at a reception held concurrently with a farewell for outgoing Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot at the Vidhana Soudha's Banquet Hall in Bengaluru.

Earlier on Friday, Chief Justice Vibhu Bakhru of the Karnataka High Court administered the oath of office to Dr. Yadav at Lok Bhavan in Bengaluru. The ceremony, marking her appointment by President Droupadi Murmu on October 12, occurred on her birthday and saw attendance from dignitaries including Deputy Chief Minister G. Parameshwara, Leader of the Opposition R. Ashoka, and Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council Chalavadi Narayanaswamy. Before taking her oath, Dr. Yadav paid floral tributes at the National Military Memorial.

Chief Minister Shivakumar, addressing the gathering, highlighted the state's previous experience with its first woman Governor, V.S. Ramadevi, who served from 1999 to 2002. He expressed optimism about collaborating with Dr. Yadav, stating, "We now have the opportunity to work with Dr. Sudha Yadav. Let us work together with renewed enthusiasm." He also shared that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah had personally informed him of Dr. Yadav's appointment.

The Chief Minister also lauded Thaawarchand Gehlot for his five years of service as Governor, which began on July 21, 2021. Shivakumar acknowledged Gehlot's extensive cooperation and guidance on various matters aimed at improving citizens' lives. He noted Gehlot's deep engagement with Karnataka's governance, culture, and traditions during his tenure, and thanked him for supporting the state government.

During the event, Chief Minister Shivakumar invited Governor Yadav to experience the Dasara festivities in Mysuru, calling it a true reflection of Karnataka's rich cultural heritage. He underscored the state's significant contributions to the nation in sectors such as economy, technology, and good governance, and commended state officials for their efforts in maintaining high standards of administration.
