Shivamogga, Karnataka – On Wednesday BJP Karnataka President and MLA B.Y. Vijayendra warned that the Congress government could see a third chief minister if its internal power struggle continues. He linked the speculation to the ongoing sting‑operation controversy that has been unsettling senior party members.
Vijayendra alleged that factions within the Congress are trying to marginalise current chief minister Siddaramaiah, suggesting that the party itself may be behind the sting operations. He called on Congress leaders to identify who commissioned the operations, who directed them and who is benefitting from the fallout.
The BJP chief recalled remarks made by former minister K.N. Rajanna, who claimed Siddaramaiah is being targeted, and said such statements highlight growing distrust inside the ruling party. He also referenced Siddaramaiah’s recent move to approach the High Court for an injunction, arguing that the legal step reflects deeper anxieties rather than merely a reaction to the court order.
According to Vijayendra, ministers, legislators and senior leaders are now more preoccupied with protecting their positions than with governance. He said the atmosphere of suspicion has made many wonder whether they could become the next victims of sting operations orchestrated by party insiders.
While insisting that the BJP does not aim to topple the Congress administration, Vijayendra noted that if elections were announced tomorrow, around 20 to 25 legislators from the ruling side might consider switching allegiance. He expressed a wish for the Congress government to complete its five‑year term, emphasizing the need to fulfil promises made to the people of Karnataka.
The BJP leader concluded that the seriousness of the internal crisis could indeed pave the way for a third chief minister, urging the Congress to resolve its disputes before the situation escalates further.
