Union Home Minister Amit Shah warned Rahul Gandhi and the Opposition of another crushing defeat in the 2029 general election during a press conference in New Delhi on Tuesday, October 13, as protests over the SIR continue.
Pointing to recent by‑poll and local body setbacks, Shah said the Congress has been on a losing streak since Gandhi became its principal leader, later its president and now Leader of the Opposition.
He asked Gandhi directly whether the SIR, which began after 2024, was to blame, and accused the opposition of trying to register infiltrators as voters.
Shah projected that the NDA, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, would secure a resounding majority in 2029, marking the fourth consecutive loss for the Congress.
The warning arrived as a “March for Democracy” reached the Supreme Court on Monday. Leaders including Mallikarjun Kharge, Akhilesh Yadav, Mamata Banerjee, D Raja, M A Baby, Tejashwi Yadav and Supriya Sule joined a crowd of 8,000 in Connaught Place, demanding action on alleged vote theft.
Following the march, Gandhi hosted a tea meeting with the INDIA bloc, pledging to continue the fight against the SIR issue.
Shah dismissed the rally of 14 parties as not representing the nation, emphasizing that real voices reside in villages, farms, hills and riverbanks where the Congress has been rejected in states such as Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.
Concluding his remarks, the Home Minister urged the opposition to introspect, stop fabricating media events and accept that the electorate’s confidence remains with the BJP, NDA and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
