Moodbidri's Samaja Mandira Sabha (R.) launched its five-day 79th Dasara Literary and Cultural celebration on Sunday evening, with Dr. M. Mohan Alva, President of Alva's Education Foundation, formally inaugurating the festive proceedings.
Speaking after the inauguration, Dr. Alva emphasized the enduring legacy of festivals, describing them as invaluable gifts from our ancestors. He noted how Dasara, once observed primarily within homes, has evolved into a grand, widespread celebration across the region, significantly fostering social cohesion. The cultural festival at Samaja Mandira, he added, plays a vital role in cultivating a Moodbidri free from communal strife.
A highlight of the evening included the presentation of the 2026 Samaja Mandira Award to K. Gunapala Kadamba, a distinguished retired principal and folklore expert. The Sabha also took the opportunity to honor Dr. M. Mohan Alva himself, recognizing his significant contributions as he marked his 75th year.
K. Abhayachandra Jain, President of Samaja Mandira Sabha, presided over the function and addressed the gathering. S.D. Samrajya, Vice President, along with other Sabha members, were present. Dr. Pundikai Ganapayya Bhat, convener of the Dasara Literary Celebration, extended a warm welcome and introduced the dignitaries. Suresh Prabhu, General Secretary, read out the felicitation letter, while Secretary M. Ganesh Kamath skillfully compered the program. The evening concluded with a captivating musical concert, "Sangeetha Rasa Manjari," presented by Santosh Kumar and his team from Savigana Melodies Moodbidri.
