Dehradun: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Sunday underscored the deep-rooted connection between India's cultural heritage, which reveres women as 'Shakti' (embodiments of strength), and the global observance of the International Day of the Girl Child. Addressing an event in Dehradun, part of the Girls' Education Promotion Programme, Chief Minister Dhami pointed out the symbolic timing, as the day also marked the first day of Sharadiya Navratri, dedicated to the worship of Goddess Shailputri. He stressed that respect for daughters and the recognition of female power have been foundational to the nation's traditions for centuries.
Dhami asserted that this rich cultural ethos, evident in practices such as 'Kanya Pujan' during Navratri, demands reflection in contemporary societal efforts. He emphasized the paramount importance of securing dignity, safety, and equitable opportunities for girls. The Chief Minister articulated that the genuine essence of these revered customs is fulfilled only when young women gain the necessary pathways to pursue comprehensive education, forge their own futures, and navigate life securely.
The Chief Minister further highlighted the crucial imperative of equipping girls for both employment and self-employment. He observed that targeted initiatives designed to expand their horizons unequivocally prove that, given adequate opportunities, girls possess the capacity to demonstrate remarkable abilities and achieve excellence across diverse professional spheres.
Concluding his remarks, Dhami also referenced a significant national security operation: Operation Sindoor. He recalled the 2025 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, which tragically resulted in 26 fatalities, and the swift Indian military response, launched under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's guidance, to neutralize terrorist bases across the border in Pakistan. The Chief Minister specifically lauded the exemplary role played by women officers in the Indian armed forces, citing Wing Commander Vyomika Singh and Colonel Sofiya Qureshi for their public briefings on the operation.
