On Thursday, September 24, CA Shantharam Shetty, Chairman of the Dakshina Kannada District Red Cross Society, underscored the critical role of timely first aid in saving lives during unforeseen incidents like accidents and snake bites. Shetty's remarks came during the World First Aid Day celebration held at the college auditorium of the Government First Grade Women's College, Balmatta, Mangaluru.
Organized jointly by the college's Youth Red Cross and IQAC, in collaboration with the Dakshina Kannada District Unit of the Indian Red Cross Society, the event emphasized the universal need for basic first aid knowledge. Shetty, who inaugurated the program, highlighted that quick thinking and proper first aid techniques directly contribute to the effective treatment of the injured. He particularly stressed the importance of this foundational knowledge for everyone, including students, to enhance community safety.
As part of the day's activities, Keerthimala K, a lecturer from Usha Institute of Nursing Sciences, Nitte University, served as the resource person. She provided practical training on first aid techniques to the female students, equipping them with essential skills.
The program also saw the participation of Raghavendra Rao and P.B. Harish Rai, directors of the Red Cross Governing Body, who attended as chief guests. Dr. Gopalakrishna K, Principal of the college, presided over the significant gathering.
Several other key individuals from the college and Red Cross were present, including Dr. Sumana B., Director of Youth Red Cross; Dr. Jayashree K., Student Welfare Officer; Shilpa, Secretary of Youth Red Cross; Dr. Manjula Mallya M., IQAC Coordinator; and Dr. Meenakshi Acharya, Youth Red Cross Project Officer. Student Zulfa extended a warm welcome to all attendees, while Hajira Abid Manna, another student, skillfully compered the entire program. Dr. Satish Kumar Shetty, Secretary of the Red Cross District Unit, concluded the event with a vote of thanks.
