On Wednesday, Dr. M. Mohan Alva addressed the annual general meeting of private college boards for the 2026-27 session at the Kuvempu auditorium of Alvas College, Mangalore. He called on the 130 private institutions under Mangalore University to adopt fresh ideas, experiment with teaching methods, and work together to solve shared challenges.
Alva, who heads the Association of Private College Boards and the Alvas Education Trust, highlighted the rapid evolution of higher education. He pointed to advances in technology, the rise of skill‑based curricula, shifting job markets and changing student expectations as forces reshaping the sector.
According to his assessment, many colleges face hurdles in academic delivery, administrative efficiency and infrastructure development. He urged that all governing bodies be brought onto a single platform where common problems can be discussed and collective solutions crafted.
The speaker stressed that coordinated action will prepare institutions for future demands. By embracing innovative pedagogies and experimental programmes, colleges can better serve the holistic development of students.
Alva also advocated for stronger synergy between universities and colleges. He suggested that Mangalore University extend academic support, facilitate co‑curricular activities and address administrative concerns through the association’s forum.
Participants agreed to organise a one‑day state‑level deliberation in January 2027. The event will focus on university‑college cooperation, administrative issues and the principal challenges confronting private colleges.
The meeting concluded with a decision to retain the current office bearers for the next term. Vice‑President Dinesh Kumar Alva, Secretary Dr. Sripathi Kalluraya and Treasurer T. Ramesh will continue in their roles.
Representatives from various private college boards affiliated with Mangalore University were present, underscoring the broad consensus on the need for unified action.
