Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) commenced a significant housing project on September 21, aiming to construct homes for economically disadvantaged students in Udupi district. The initiative launched on the 91st birthday of MAHE Chancellor Dr. Ramdas M. Pai.
This pioneering scheme targets families of students from Kannada medium government schools, specifically those studying between the 1st and 10th standards and living below the poverty line. Academic performance will not influence the selection process for beneficiaries. Over the next five years, MAHE plans to build a total of 50 houses, completing ten residences annually. A dedicated committee formed by MAHE will meticulously select the eligible families.
During the launch event, Dr. Ranjan Pai, Chairman of MAHE Trust, presented initial house construction confirmation letters to two deserving families, symbolizing the project's official commencement. The primary goal of this endeavour is to provide a stable and conducive learning environment for students facing economic hardship, thereby empowering them to become exemplary citizens of India.
Dr. H. S. Ballal, MAHE Pro-Chancellor, commented on the university's commitment. He emphasized that while education undeniably transforms lives, the opportunity to live with dignity and security holds equal importance. He highlighted the housing initiative as clear evidence of MAHE's meaningful contributions to social service, complementing its notable academic achievements.
Yakshagana Kalaranga will collaborate closely with MAHE on the project's implementation. Gangadhar Rao, President of Yakshagana Kalaranga, will oversee the construction phase of these new homes.
