Moodbidri, Dakshina Kannada: John Ronald D'Souza, an assistant teacher at Moodumarnadu Government High School, has earned the prestigious Dakshina Kannada District Level Best Teacher Award. This recognition highlights his extensive contributions to education across the region.
D'Souza commenced his teaching journey in 1988 at Iruvailu Government Senior Primary School. Over 37 years, he served various institutions, including Government Senior Primary School, Iruvailu, Moodbidri Main, and Guttu Karinje Junior Primary School. He advanced to a high school assistant teacher position in 2005 and has since taught at Government High School, Moodumarnadu.
Beyond the classroom, D'Souza contributed as a member of the textbook drafting committee. He also spent three years as a resource person at the Field Resource Centre in Moodbidri, where he trained numerous primary school teachers. His expertise extended to programs like TALP, ELC, and Social Science subject training. To aid slow-learning children in Social Science, he authored 'Samaja Balu Sulabha', 'Savisutragalu', and 'Savimoulya'.
During the COVID-19 lockdown, D'Souza pioneered online quizzes, developed a YouTube channel for educational videos, and prepared e-content, integrating modern technology into his teaching. He also actively sought community support, securing notebooks, school IDs, loudspeakers, water coolers, meal plates, glasses, mixers, and cookers for mid-day meals, along with prizes for students, all through donor assistance.
His dedication has significantly impacted Moodumarnadu Government High School's academic performance. The school boasts a 100% SSLC examination pass rate for a total of nine years, uniquely achieving this feat continuously for the past three years among government high schools in the taluk. The Social Science subject, taught by D'Souza, has consistently recorded 100% results in multiple years.
