K. Gopal Poojary, Chairman of the Akrama-Sakrama Additional Committee for Byndoor constituency, has committed to resolving over 4,000 pending land regularization applications within the next 4-5 months. Speaking after a committee meeting held Friday at the Court Hall of the Byndoor Mini Vidhana Soudha, Poojary outlined a rigorous plan to expedite the process, which includes weekly disposal targets.
The significant backlog includes 2,636 applications in Byndoor hobli and 1,963 in Vandse hobli, totaling a substantial challenge for local landholders. To address this, Poojary announced that committee meetings would now convene every Friday, aiming to dispose of a minimum of 25 eligible applications each week. This accelerated approach seeks to clear all eligible cases within the stipulated timeframe.
Beyond the constituency's immediate concerns, Poojary revealed instructions issued to the Deputy Commissioner to ensure the issuance of 50,000 title deeds across the district within three months. He emphasized prioritizing lands cultivated for 30-40 years under the Bagar Hukum scheme, many of which still lack formal ownership. To streamline the process, the Tahsildar, accompanied by revenue inspectors, will conduct site visits. Committee members will also personally inspect areas where issues persist, particularly those related to agriculture. Poojary specifically directed Village Accountants to give first priority to economically disadvantaged individuals holding 5-10 cents of land, despite their existing workloads.
The former Byndoor MLA also addressed a personal challenge, expressing his dismay that his appointment as chairman had been contested in court. "The government legally appointed me as the chairman of the additional committee," Poojary stated. "While additional committees have existed for many years, and even during my four terms as MLA, I never faced such litigation. It is painful that someone challenged my position." He added that the case was heard 29 times in the High Court, which ultimately upheld the government's order in their favour, noting that no applications had been disposed of for three years prior to this resolution.
During the Friday meeting, seven individuals received their title deeds from Poojary. Among those present were Kundapura Tahsildar Pradeep Kurdekar, Revenue Inspector Raghavendra Hoskali, and committee members Srinivas Souda, Hema R. Poojary, and Dinesh Naik Hallihole.
