The Puttur Manavabandhutva Vedike has formally approached local police, seeking legal action against Jagadish Karanth and Dr. Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat. The forum alleges these individuals, who arrived from outside the region, are actively attempting to disrupt peace in Puttur through their divisive rhetoric. Their complaint, submitted to the Puttur DySP and Puttur Station Officer, also requests the outright prohibition of the 'Puttur Chalo' program, scheduled by the Sangh Parivar for August 31st.
According to the Vedike's detailed complaint, Karanth and Bhat exploited a minor private altercation between shop owners and customers in Darbe as a pretext for their activities. Following this incident, they reportedly made communally inflammatory statements in the media, specifically targeting the Muslim community with derogatory remarks. The complaint explicitly cites their use of phrases such as “conspiracy to divide the country” and “terrorist Muslim.” The Vedike argues that such language directly harms social harmony and constitutes a punishable offense under laws designed to prevent animosity between communities. These statements, the forum emphasizes, foster mutual animosity within society and could directly lead to widespread unrest.
Beyond seeking action against the two individuals, the Puttur Manavabandhutva Vedike has strongly urged the DySP to disallow the 'Puttur Chalo' program. The forum asserts that the program's organization carries malicious intent, designed solely to instigate communal riots. Allowing this event, they warn, could gravely jeopardize the peace, harmony, and social cohesion not only in Puttur but also in the neighboring Sullia and Kadaba taluks. The Vedike stressed the importance of curbing these hate-filled statements and preventing events that threaten regional stability.
A delegation from the Manavabandhutva Vedike presented the complaint and request to authorities. Key members present included convener Amala Ramachandra, alongside office bearers H. Mohammed Ali, Ullas Kotian, Maurice Mascarenhas, Amarnath Gowda, and Mohammed Riyaz.
