Mangaluru's Bearys Institute of Technology (BIT) recently hosted an essential awareness program on August 24, aimed at safeguarding students against the perils of drug abuse and ragging. Titled 'Safe Mind – Safe Campus – No Ragging and Drugs,' the initiative, a collaboration with the college's NSS unit, saw police and academic leaders address critical issues at the International Seminar Hall.
Police Officer Puneeth Gaonkar delivered a comprehensive address, urging students to actively shun drugs and ragging. He meticulously outlined the severe physical, mental, and social ramifications associated with these harmful practices. Gaonkar underscored the vital role of mutual respect, discipline, vigilance, and cooperation in cultivating a secure campus environment, advocating for students to make prudent decisions. His session also extended to traffic regulations and road safety, cautioning that rule violations imperil not only individuals but also fellow road users. Furthermore, he enlightened attendees on cybercrime and cybersecurity, highlighting risks such as online fraud, social media misuse, and the careless sharing of personal data, advising responsible digital conduct.
Dr. S.I. Manjur Basha, Director of BIT, reinforced these messages, strongly advising students to rigorously avoid drugs and ragging while upholding discipline and responsible conduct on campus. He reiterated the importance of strictly following traffic laws and adopting safe driving habits. The program's primary objective was to enlighten students about the detrimental impacts of substance abuse and ragging, simultaneously fostering a secure, healthy, and structured academic setting.
The event was skillfully anchored by Avvabi Shahana, a 7th-semester E&C student. Mustafa Khaleel introduced the distinguished guests, following a warm welcome address delivered by Prof. Mohammed Sinan from BIT's CSE department. Dr. Mohammed Kafeel Delvi, the NSS Program Officer, was also present during the crucial session.
