On August 15, at the Dakshina Kannada district-level Independence Day celebration, Minister U.T. Khader announced that the government has decided to establish a Malnad Tourism Corporation to promote tourism in the coastal region. This move aims to attract global tourists and support the youth of the region. The minister, who hoisted the national flag at the Nehru Maidan, also delivered an Independence Day message after reviewing the parade.
The government has launched 10 major programs in 100 days to benefit various sections of society, including farmers and youth. Under the Raitha Mitra Yojana, farmers with land up to one hectare will receive a 50% subsidy on agricultural equipment rental. The government will also introduce a rural immersion program for students to experience rural life, focusing on agriculture, horticulture, animal husbandry, art, and culture.
Other initiatives include the Yuva Karnataka Nirmana Yojana, which will establish 6,000 youth clubs in rural areas and 4,000 in urban areas, with an annual grant of Rs 10 lakh per club. The government will also launch a mobility grid mission, a government hospital adoption program, a Nasha Mukta Karnataka initiative, and a land guarantee scheme. Minister Khader emphasized the importance of unity and diversity, stating that despite differences in language, religion, and politics, Indians are united under the national flag.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, MLC Ivan D’Souza, and Police Commissioner Sudhir Kumar Reddy. The celebration featured a police band, a rendition of the national anthem, and a cultural performance by school children. The best marching contingent award was given to the Mullakadu Government Primary School.
The minister also honored Neeta Piereira, who had donated her father’s organs after his death in a road accident, and emphasized the importance of organ donation. Minister Khader concluded his speech by highlighting the significance of unity, tolerance, and equality in Indian culture and the Constitution.
