On July 25, Karaval Konkans Australia Inc. (KKA) hosted the second edition of Khel Masthi, a signature indoor cricket tournament, at Casey Stadium in Cranbourne, Melbourne. Nearly 250 people attended, including players, family members, and supporters. The tournament aimed to bring the Konkani community together through sport, friendship, and cultural connection. Rev. Fr. James Fernandez led a prayer and blessing to mark the start of the event. KKA President Jane D’Souza welcomed the gathering, acknowledging the efforts of the organising committee, volunteers, sponsors, and participating teams. The tournament featured 12 men’s teams and four women’s teams, with players competing throughout the day. The atmosphere was energetic, with enthusiastic families and supporters cheering on their teams.
The participating teams competed in a display of cricketing talent, teamwork, and fair play. After a thrilling day of competition, Coastal Queens emerged as champions in the Women’s Division, while The Sundari Sixers finished as runners-up. In the Men’s Division, Cranbourne Stars C clinched the championship, with Jolly Boyz Thunderz finishing as runners-up. The winners received $1,000 in prize money, while the runners-up were awarded $500 each. Individual awards were also presented for outstanding performances, including Best Batter, Best Bowler, Best Fielder, and Player of the Tournament.
The closing ceremony and prize distribution were attended by City of Casey Mayor Cr Stefan Koomen, who presented the awards and congratulated the players, organisers, and volunteers. Mayor Koomen highlighted the importance of multicultural community organisations in promoting social inclusion and stronger community connections through sport. KKA Founder and Chairperson Wilson Kalakar thanked the participating teams and acknowledged the contributions of committee members, volunteers, umpires, sponsors, and supporters who helped make the tournament a success.
